Recognising Learning Through Credit

9 How does credit relate to awards in higher education?
Each HEI that uses a credit system will define its awards in terms of the volume of learning (credit) at a particular combination of levels. This is explained, for postgraduate/graduate awards in Table 2 and for undergraduate awards in Table 3 in Credit and HE Qualifications.

10 How is credit recorded?
Increasingly HEIs keep a record of accumulated credits during a programme and produce a 'transcript' for each student, annually, at the completion of each stage of an award or when the student leaves the programme.

The answers to these FAQs have been compiled by Mike Downes, SEEC Development Officer and represent his understanding of the broad approach of SEEC member institutions. Each HEI is unique and autonomous and may have its own interpretation of the credit guidelines.

Please refer to Credit and HE Qualifications: The Credit guidelines for HE qualifications for England, Wales and Northern Ireland available in booklet form from the SEEC Office, see the Publications page, or they can be downloaded as a pdf file.
